Team squad size is not restricted at the Gulf Open Invitational Football Tournament with rolling substitutions for each age category.
Any club entering more than one team in the same age category are not permitted to change players between teams at any stage during the tournament. If a team is found to be in violation of this rule they will be disqualified immediately as this could provide an unfair advantage.
*Rolling Substitutions – Teams may substitute a player and then re-enter the player in the same match, this will count as one of the teams substitutions each time a player is taken on or off.
On arrival at The Dubai Sports City Football Academy Complex teams will be greeted by one of the AST Event Team who will guide you through to Tournament Registrations where your team can check in before entering the changing rooms to prepare for the games that day.
Teams must arrive at the Tournament site at least 45 minutes before the start of their match, appearing pitch side 15 minutes before kickoff.
Before the Gulf Open Invitational begins teams will be divided into groups where they will compete in the pool stage’s against other teams drawn in their group. Please note three points will be awarded for a win, one point for a draw and zero for a loss.
If two or more teams have the same number of points at the end of group stages the order will be decided as follows:
- Final score of match between teams with equal points.
- Most goals scored.
- Teams with the least number of goals conceded.
- If teams are still tied then progression will be decided by disciplinary (red/yellow cards).
- Or further still by the toss of a coin
During the knockout stage of the Gulf Open Invitational all teams will reset back to level status, with the exception of any match bans, which will continue into the knockout stages. All knock out games will be decided by the team who scores the most goals in the match, If there is a tie at the end of normal time then extra time will be played. If scores are still tied after extra time then the match will be decided by a penalty shootout with each team taking 5 penalties (If there is still a tie then sudden death will apply).
The AST Winners & Runners-up Awards will take place on the last day of the Tournament on-site at The Dubai Sports City Football Academy Complex. Teams will take centre stage to be crowned victorious and collect their respective medals and specially designed Gulf Open Invitational Trophy in front of all their fans.
